Shaving & Mindfulness

Are you wondering what shaving has to do with mindfulness? Well I am going to explain my take on it. First, let's start with what mindfulness is.Jon Kabat Zinn defines mindfulness as: "Paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally." Simply put it means paying attention to whatever you are doing rather than letting our monkey mind take over and distract us. Instead of reading a book and thinking about what you are going to have for dinner, you are just reading.                                                                                                                                              

When Kevin first started shaving with artisan shave soaps, I decided I would give it a try. Using a double edge (DE) razor, I wasn't able to shave mindlessly or I was going to end up with a ton of cuts. I decided to practice mindfulness while shaving. Instead of rushing through my shower and shaving as fast as I could, I slowed down, smelled the awesome scent from the shave soap and took my time with the DE razor. Shaving this way changed my dislike of having to shave and feeling like it was another chore and I began to enjoy my shaving experience.
